Running. Specifically from law enforcement. It is rarely a good move. Doing it with a three-year-old strapped into the back? That pushes past bad decision making. Straight into tragedy waiting to happen. This woman in Memphis did exactly that earlier this year.

Dashcam video surfaced recently. Shows the moment in March when she refused to stop. Police had a red Dodge Charger on the back of her license plates. A chase started. Not on highways with traffic. Quiet country roads instead. Which gave the officer space to work.

No fancy PIT maneuver here. The cop just tapped the rear. A nudge. Enough to push the Charger off asphalt and into the grass. The driver lost it. The car spun. Flipped. Ended up sitting on its roof.

For a while it just stayed there. Twisted metal. Then the rear door creaked open. Her son crawled out. He seemed unhurt. Definitely shaken. Just ran toward the nearest cop.

A suspended license. That was her excuse.

She climbed out of the wreckage. Slowly. Told the officer she fled because she wasn’t licensed. The response was immediate.

“You ran from me because you don’t have a license? You almost killed your kid. Do you understand? That was the stupidst thing you have ever done.”

He meant it. It sounds like it. Does fear of a fine justify risking your child’s life? Probably not.
