BAIC’s premium electric sub-brand, Arcfox, has officially entered the luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment with the launch of the Wendao V9. Unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the vehicle has already demonstrated significant market interest, securing over 8,000 firm orders within its first 48 hours of pre-sales.

The Wendao V9 is positioned as the brand’s largest and most expensive model to date, with prices ranging from 219,900 to 286,900 yuan (approximately $32,200 to $42,000 USD).

The Rise of the Extended-Range MPV

The Wendao V9 utilizes an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain. This setup uses a small internal combustion engine primarily to act as a generator to charge the battery, rather than driving the wheels directly.

This technology is a critical trend in the Chinese market; it offers the driving range and convenience of a traditional gasoline vehicle—eliminating “range anxiety”—while providing the smooth, quiet, and high-torque experience of an electric motor.

Interior Luxury and Passenger Comfort

Designed with a focus on high-end family or executive transport, the Wendao V9 features a 2+2+3 seating configuration. While the front cabin adopts a tech-minimalist aesthetic centered around a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, the true emphasis is on the second-row experience.

Key luxury amenities include:
Premium Seating: Reclining, heated, ventilated, and massaging seats with integrated leg rests.
Convenience Features: A built-in center console refrigerator and fold-down tray tables.
Entertainment: A ceiling-mounted display for rear-seat passengers.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The vehicle’s performance is defined by a combination of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a high-performance rear motor supplied by Huawei.

Powertrain and Battery

The Wendao V9 is offered in four trims, distinguished mainly by their battery chemistry:
LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Trims: Equipped with a 37 kWh battery, offering a CLTC electric range of 216 km.
NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) Trims: Equipped with a 53.4 kWh battery, extending the CLTC electric range to 315 km.

Both battery types are sourced from CATL. Despite being built on a 400V platform, Arcfox claims highly efficient charging capabilities, capable of moving from 10% to 80% charge in just 15 minutes.

Driving Dynamics

The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup delivers a top speed of 190 km/h. Acceleration varies slightly by trim: the LFP models reach 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, while the heavier NMC models take 8.4 seconds.

To manage its substantial curb weight (up to 2,580 kg), Arcfox has implemented advanced chassis technology:
Suspension: All-aluminum front double wishbones and rear multi-link suspension.
Adaptive Tech: The top trim features magnetorheological adaptive suspension, which can adjust damping up to 1,000 times per second—significantly faster than standard adaptive systems.

Market Context: Arcfox and the Competitive Landscape

The Wendao V9 enters a highly competitive arena, facing established rivals such as the BYD Denza D9 and the GWM Wey G9. Arcfox’s ability to capture 8,000 orders in two days suggests a strong appetite for premium EREV models that bridge the gap between pure EVs and traditional combustion cars.

This launch comes at a pivotal time for Arcfox. After a seasonal slump during the Spring Festival, the brand saw a recovery in March 2026, delivering over 15,000 units. The Wendao V9 represents a strategic attempt to elevate the brand from its current lineup of sedans and SUVs into the high-margin luxury MPV sector.

The Wendao V9’s rapid pre-sale success highlights the growing consumer demand for high-tech, extended-range vehicles that offer both long-distance capability and premium passenger comfort.
