Cupra is preparing to launch the Raval, a compact electric hatchback designed to stand out in a crowded market. Set to arrive in early 2026, this model isn’t just another small EV — it’s engineered for performance and attitude, backed by the latest Volkswagen Group MEB+ platform.
Engineering and Development
The Raval shares its foundation with upcoming VW ID. Polo, ID. Cross, and Skoda Epic models, all slated for production in Spain. However, Cupra took the lead in chassis tuning for the entire family, ensuring the Raval delivers a unique driving experience. Unlike many EVs prioritizing comfort, Cupra has tuned the Raval to be more engaging, lowering the chassis by 15mm and stiffening the suspension.
Performance and Trims
The base model will feature a single front-mounted electric motor producing 208 hp (155 kW), offering an estimated range of 278 miles (450 km). Higher trims, such as the Dynamic Plus, add advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), intelligent parking, premium audio, and more.
The flagship VZ trim takes performance further, with a more powerful 233 hp (166 kW) motor, an electronic differential, and wider track. The VZ boasts striking 19-inch wheels with a distinctive circular-saw-blade design. However, the aggressive setup results in a slightly reduced range of 249 miles (400 km).
Pricing and Market Positioning
Cupra aims to launch the Raval with a starting price of around €26,000 (£23k / $30k), positioning it competitively within the EV market. The manufacturer acknowledges that more affordable, less powerful variants may follow to broaden appeal once initial demand settles.
The Cupra Raval isn’t just another electric car; it’s a statement. By prioritizing driving dynamics over pure efficiency, Cupra is targeting a younger, more enthusiastic audience that values excitement behind the wheel.
