Singer, the California-based automotive firm specializing in meticulously crafted Porsche 911 restomods, has unveiled its latest creation: the 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined. This new series takes inspiration from the iconic widebody 911 Carrera Cabriolets of the mid-1980s, blending nostalgic aesthetics with modern engineering.
The Art of Restomodding
Singer’s approach isn’t simply restoration; it’s reimagining. Each series builds upon the last, with ever-increasing levels of detail and refinement. The Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined takes a later-generation 964 Cabriolet as its base, then dramatically enhances it. The chassis is strengthened and widened, with extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber panels.
The result is a car that appears to be a pristine 1980s 911, yet benefits from modern construction and materials. This extends to the folding roof, which features a new Z-fold design for improved reliability and aesthetics. Even subtle details like the rear lights and front indicators are carefully replicated from the G-Series 911, but are executed with slimmer profiles and LED technology.
Performance Meets Heritage
Under the engine cover sits a Cosworth-developed 4.0-liter flat-six engine. This isn’t just a revival of old technology; it’s a modern take on the classic Porsche layout. The engine boasts four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, and water-cooled headers, delivering 420 horsepower. Crucially, it remains air-cooled, preserving the spirit of the original 911.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, with a limited-slip differential and custom suspension ensuring optimal handling. The combination of power, lightweight construction, and precise control makes this a thrilling driving machine.
Bespoke Interior and Exclusivity
The interior is equally customizable, with every trim piece and component redesigned to the buyer’s specifications. Owners can choose between a solid body-colored carbon roof – reminiscent of the 1980s 911 Speedster – or a traditional canvas cover. Bespoke 18-inch wheels, inspired by the classic ‘Fuchs’ design, complete the period-correct look.
With a limited production run of just 75 units worldwide, the Singer 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined is a rare and exclusive offering. While pricing remains undisclosed, it will undoubtedly be substantial. Despite this, the car will be available to UK buyers willing to import one.
This isn’t just about building a car; it’s about curating an experience. Singer has successfully merged the romantic nostalgia of the 1980s with the performance and reliability of modern engineering, creating a truly exceptional machine.
