Porsche’s next-generation Cayenne Turbo Electric is here, and it doesn’t compromise on power. The all-electric model delivers a staggering 1,140 horsepower, catapulting it to 60 mph in under three seconds—a benchmark previously unheard of for this class. While still in the testing phase, early rides confirm a startling level of performance for a nearly three-ton vehicle.

Performance and Handling

The Cayenne EV’s acceleration is brutal, with lateral grip that defies its weight. Porsche’s test track in Bratislava, Slovakia, provided the proving ground: cornering at nearly 100 mph revealed an SUV that feels less like a traditional high-rider and more like an aggressively-tuned performance wagon. The interior remains premium and tech-focused, with a massive central screen dominating the cabin. Heated touchpoints and customizable artificial engine sounds (including a V-8 emulation) add to the experience, though the novelty may wear off quickly.

Battery Production and Manufacturing

Porsche is vertically integrating production. The battery packs are assembled in a highly automated facility nearby, using pouch-type cells arranged in six cross-mounted modules with advanced cooling. This setup feeds directly into the Bratislava plant, which already produces the Audi Q7, VW Touareg, and current Cayenne models. The factory has seen $1.4 billion in recent investments, positioning it for a flexible future.

Hybrid Production Line

Remarkably, Porsche intends to maintain production of internal-combustion, hybrid, and EV variants on the same assembly line. The new chassis rolls into the main body shop alongside the outgoing model’s, ensuring a seamless transition. Production is currently at 180 Cayennes and 120 coupes daily, with the EV variant expected to increase in volume depending on market demand.
