Lucid Recalls 66 Gravity SUVs Over Airbag-Disrupting Seat Covers

Lucid Motors has issued a voluntary recall affecting 66 of its flagship Gravity SUVs due to a defect in seat covers that could disable the side airbags in a crash. The issue, identified in late October, stems from mislabeled seatback covers supplied by Piston Interiors.

The Root of the Problem: Mislabeling and Airbag Deployment

The recall involves covers produced in September 2025 where driver-side labels were mistakenly applied to passenger-side components during assembly at Hyundai Transys. This may seem minor, but airbag systems are calibrated to specific seat positions. A mislabeled cover can disrupt the deployment sequence, potentially reducing airbag effectiveness in a collision. Lucid estimates that approximately 39.4 percent of the 66 affected vehicles may have the defect.

How The Error Was Discovered & Corrective Measures

Hyundai Transys alerted Lucid to the mislabeling issue, which triggered a joint investigation pointing to Piston Interiors. The supplier immediately implemented enhanced 200 percent production inspections to prevent future occurrences. Lucid subsequently inspected its inventory and identified 66 customer-delivered vehicles that may be affected.

What Owners Need To Know

Lucid will notify owners of the recall by February 6, 2026. The company will replace any incorrectly labeled seatback covers free of charge and reimburse customers for any pre-notification expenses. Owners can contact Lucid Customer Care at 1-888-99-LUCID for further assistance.

This recall demonstrates that even minor manufacturing errors can have serious safety implications in modern vehicles. Airbag systems are increasingly complex, and precision in component labeling is critical for proper functioning.
