Kia is evaluating whether to bring its futuristic Vision Meta Turismo concept to market as either the EV7 or EV8, expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with a striking, low-slung grand tourer. The concept, revealed earlier, showcases a bold design philosophy and an unconventional interior focused on personalized experiences for driver and passenger.
Expanding Beyond the Current Range
Kia’s European design chief, Oliver Samson, indicates that the current EV model range is now complete with the launch of the EV2 crossover. This allows the company to focus on next-generation models, starting with updates to the EV6 and EV9. Samson emphasized a willingness to deviate from established design cues, stating that future projects won’t simply replicate previous work.
“We’re always looking for something new,” Samson noted, signaling a departure from incremental changes toward more radical design explorations.
A New Approach to Interior and Exterior Design
The Meta Turismo represents Kia’s exploration of alternative vehicle layouts. The company is questioning traditional interior configurations, particularly the symmetrical arrangement of driver and passenger seating. Kia aims to create more differentiated experiences, tailoring the cabin to accommodate different activities for each occupant.
This approach extends to exterior silhouettes, with the firm considering “new ways of treating surfaces” and “different silhouettes” in its upcoming designs. The Meta Turismo serves as a testing ground, challenging conventional saloon design norms.
Consumer Feedback Will Be Key
Before committing to production, Kia intends to gauge consumer reaction to the Meta Turismo’s radical design. Samson stressed the importance of ensuring that any future models align with customer expectations. The company is actively seeking feedback to validate whether the concept resonates with potential buyers.
Kia’s willingness to explore unconventional designs suggests a growing appetite for bolder EV offerings. If consumer response is positive, the Meta Turismo could become a defining model in Kia’s future lineup, pushing the boundaries of automotive design.
