Nearly 12,000 Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles are being recalled in the United States due to a defect that could cause liftgate hinge covers to fall off while driving. The issue, which affects models built between March 21, 2024, and July 24, 2025, was identified after mounting warranty claims and field reports.
The Problem: A Loose Fit
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice details that the hinge covers may not secure properly due to insufficient design tolerances. This means they can detach mid-drive, creating a road hazard for trailing vehicles. Owners may first notice the issue through rattling sounds or visibly misaligned covers.
How Jeep Found Out
Stellantis’ internal investigation began on January 8, involving Technical Safety, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams. The probe focused on production data and design revisions to determine the root cause of the defect. By February 18, Jeep had already recorded two customer assistance cases, seventeen warranty claims, and thirty-two field reports related to the faulty hinge covers.
Scale of the Recall
The recall covers approximately 6.7% of the affected vehicles—that’s 11,767 Wagoneer S EVs. The defective component is supplied by Magna International. Jeep will begin notifying owners on May 1, instructing them to visit dealerships for inspection. Dealers will either repair or replace the hinge covers with an updated version designed to stay secure.
