The Jeep Recon, a fully electric 4×4, is set to arrive in late 2026, offering a powerful alternative to the Wrangler while addressing European emissions regulations. Unlike Jeep’s smaller electric offering, the Avenger, the Recon is engineered for serious off-road performance, earning the coveted ‘Trail Rated’ certification—a testament to its ability to handle any terrain.

Blending Electric Power with Rugged Capability

The Recon is built on the STLA Large platform, also used in the Jeep Wagoneer S, and boasts a 100kWh battery with steel underbody protection. While its estimated range of 280 miles falls short of the Jeep Compass Electric’s 403 miles, the Recon compensates with dual motors delivering 641bhp, 840Nm of torque, and a rapid 3.7-second 0-62mph acceleration.

Jeep has fine-tuned the throttle for precise control in challenging conditions, ensuring that the Recon’s instant torque is harnessed effectively for rock crawling and other off-road obstacles. Reinforced half shafts, an electronic locking rear differential, and a disconnectable front motor further enhance its capability.

Off-Road Focused Features

The Recon includes Selec-Speed Control for maintaining speed on inclines and declines, with specific drive modes for Snow, Sand, and Auto. The North American-exclusive Moab version adds a special Rock mode, adjusting throttle response and activating a hill hold feature for seamless transitions on steep terrain.

A Modern Take on Jeep’s Iconic Design

The Recon’s boxy design retains Jeep’s signature elements, including the illuminated seven-slot grille, squared-off wheel arches, and chunky bumpers with tow hooks. All four doors, the rear quarter glass, and rear windscreen are removable, allowing for an open-air driving experience. A dual-pane sunroof is standard, with an optional power-retractable top available.

Equipped with 33-inch off-road tires, the Recon offers 239mm of ground clearance, a 34-degree approach angle, a 34.5-degree departure angle, and a 23.5-degree breakover angle—comparable to the Land Rover Defender 110.

Functional and Tech-Forward Interior

The interior emphasizes durability and sustainability, featuring modular storage solutions and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display paired with a 14.5-inch touchscreen. Physical buttons remain for off-road functions, and a modular accessory rail allows for customization.

The Recon offers up to 1,866 liters of space with the rear seats folded down, plus 85 liters under the bonnet. Speakers are located under the seats to facilitate door removal.

Pricing and Availability

Production begins in early 2024 in Toluca, Mexico, with North American deliveries following soon after. European availability is slated for late 2026, with estimated prices starting around £70,000.

The Jeep Recon represents a bold step forward for the brand, combining legendary performance with the future of electric mobility. It’s a vehicle designed for those who demand uncompromising capability without sacrificing sustainability
