The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is now available for order, delivering 641 horsepower in a sleek saloon body for £65,800. This positions it competitively against rivals, notably undercutting the BMW M3 by around £25,000 while offering comparable performance.

Performance and Technology

The Ioniq 6 N boasts a dual-motor powertrain capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 160 mph. Hyundai has engineered this car for serious drivers: it includes an 84kWh battery, adaptive dampers, and a virtual gearbox system designed to mimic the feel of traditional performance cars. The inclusion of an “N Active Sound” feature further enhances the driving experience by simulating engine sounds.

Unlike some competitors with extensive, costly option lists, the Ioniq 6 N keeps customization straightforward. Buyers can choose from six exterior colors – including Performance Blue and matte Gravity Gold – and add a tilting sunroof for £1,250. The standard package includes premium features like Alcantara and leather bucket seats, 20-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires, and a distinctive ducktail spoiler.

Design and Chassis Upgrades

Building on the success of the Ioniq 5 N, which has set a new standard for electric performance, the Ioniq 6 N features a wider body (60mm broader than the standard model) and aerodynamic enhancements. Hyundai’s design team widened the fenders to accommodate the larger wheels and tires, creating a more aggressive stance.

The chassis has been reengineered for improved track performance without sacrificing daily driving comfort. The lower roll center and redesigned suspension geometry contribute to greater stability and cornering grip. Hyundai emphasizes that this car is “for all N-thusiast drivers,” offering a more focused experience than the Ioniq 5 N.

Advanced Systems and Driver Feedback

The Ioniq 6 N incorporates several advanced systems to optimize performance. These include a battery-conditioning system with modes for drag, sprint, and endurance racing, as well as an updated ‘N e-Shift’ system that minimizes power loss.

Hyundai has also introduced ‘Active Sound +’, offering three immersive auditory modes – Ignition, Evolution, and Lightspeed – to provide greater driver feedback. The ‘N Grin Boost’ function delivers maximum power for up to 10 seconds with a simple steering wheel button press, and the ‘N Drift Optimiser’ allows drivers to customize torque oversteer settings.

Charging and Interior Features

The Ioniq 6 N utilizes an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-rapid charging speeds of up to 260kW. This allows for an 80% charge in approximately 18 minutes, providing a range of 302 miles.

Inside, the cabin features hard-backed bucket seats with illuminated N logos, ambient lighting, and a dual-screen infotainment system with bespoke N menus. The ‘N Track Manager’ allows drivers to analyze track data, compare lap times, and create custom routes for performance monitoring.

Hyundai has proven its commitment to high-performance EVs. The Ioniq 6 N is not just a powerful electric car; it’s a well-engineered machine designed to compete directly with established performance brands like BMW. By offering competitive pricing and a comprehensive feature set, Hyundai is pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle performance.
