Ford is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the introduction of the F-Line E, its first fully electric heavy-duty truck. While Ford has recently scaled back some EV targets, this launch demonstrates continued investment in commercial electrification. The F-Line E isn’t for retail customers yet; instead, it’s designed for heavy-commercial applications in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia through Ford Otosan—a joint venture between Ford and Koç Holding.

Power and Range

The F-Line E comes in two configurations: a 4×2 and a 6×2. The larger 6×2 model boasts four 98 kWh nickel manganese cobalt batteries, totaling 392 kWh (314 kWh usable), providing a range of up to 186 miles (300 km). It delivers 415 hp and 1,010 lb-ft of torque under normal driving, peaking at 523 hp and 1,821 lb-ft. The 6×2 also supports peak charging speeds of up to 285 kW.

The smaller 4×2 version features three battery packs (294 kWh total, 235 kWh usable) with a range of up to 155 miles (250 km). It’s powered by a less potent motor producing 315 hp, with a peak output of 389 hp, and supports charging speeds up to 213 kW. Both models are speed-limited to 56 mph (90 km/h).

Designed for Versatility

Ford Trucks emphasizes the F-Line E’s adaptability. It’s intended for delivery fleets, municipal services, and specialized roles like garbage collection. The truck’s modular design allows easy customization for specific tasks without extensive modifications. This approach makes it suitable for businesses seeking a flexible EV solution for their operational needs.

Hybrid Strategy: EVs Alongside Combustion Engines

The launch of the F-Line E occurs alongside updates to Ford’s traditional combustion engine lineup. The revised F-Max, featuring a 12.7-liter engine for 2025, aims to improve fuel efficiency by 11 percent. This highlights Ford’s strategic approach: pursuing both electrification and refining its existing internal combustion engine (ICE) offerings. This dual path reflects the reality that while EV technology is advancing, ICE vehicles remain vital for many commercial applications.

The F-Line E represents a significant step for Ford in the heavy-duty EV space, but its limited initial market and concurrent development of ICE solutions demonstrate the ongoing transition rather than an immediate overhaul of the commercial vehicle industry.
