In 2009, a private client commissioned Swiss coachbuilder Sbarro to create something extraordinary: a completely reworked supercar based on the underpinnings of a Ferrari 360 Modena. The result, the Sbarro Alcador GTB, wasn’t just a modification—it was a radical reimagining. Now, this bizarre yet fascinating creation is going under the hammer.
From Modena to Madness
Sbarro, known since 1971 for its outlandish automotive experiments, readily accepted the challenge. The Alcador GTB’s transformation is almost total. At first glance, few would guess it began life as a Ferrari. The car features entirely custom bodywork, including a striking front end devoid of a traditional grille, replaced instead with narrow slits and a massive clamshell hood.
The roofline and windows were also dramatically altered, adopting a glasshouse design reminiscent of vintage Ferrari prototypes. Inside, while retaining key Ferrari components like the steering wheel and gauges, Sbarro extensively modified the dashboard, angling it toward the driver and re-trimming it in blue suede. This wasn’t a simple kit; it was a ground-up rebuild within an existing chassis.
A Collector’s Curiosity?
The car’s history since its 2009 debut is short but eventful. The original commissioner, Ludwig Binder, owned the Alcador GTB until 2020, after which it passed through two German enthusiasts. It’s currently finished in a vibrant red, a departure from its initial blue paint scheme.
The question now is: what will it fetch? In 2022, it was listed for €395,000—seven times the value of a standard 360 Modena. Current estimates put the auction price between €180,000 and €260,000.
This vehicle isn’t merely a rare collectible; it’s a testament to automotive extravagance and a bold design statement.
