BYD Tang 9 SUV Unveiled: Flagship Performance and Megawatt Charging

0

Images of BYD’s latest flagship SUV, the Tang 9, have emerged, showcasing a vehicle poised to compete directly with rivals like the Aito M9 and Li Auto L9. The Tang 9 is confirmed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, positioning it as a high-performance offering in the full-size SUV segment.

Design and Key Features

The Tang 9 sports BYD’s newest design language, marked by a distinctive through-type LED daytime running light and vertically stacked headlights. The rear features a full-width taillight design, emphasizing its modern aesthetic. A prominent “4.9S” badge confirms the vehicle’s rapid acceleration capabilities.

Super e-Platform and Advanced Technology

The Tang 9 is built on BYD’s cutting-edge Super e-platform, which supports megawatt-level flash charging and a high-performance 30,000 rpm motor. It will also be the first BYD model to feature rear-wheel steering, enhancing maneuverability and stability. The vehicle was spotted at a second-generation megawatt flash charging station, further validating its advanced charging capabilities.

Performance and Powertrain

Based on its 4.9-second acceleration time, the Tang 9 is expected to utilize a three-motor layout – one at the front and two at the rear – delivering over 500 kW (approximately 670+ horsepower). This powertrain configuration confirms BYD’s commitment to high-performance electric SUVs.

Size and Positioning

The Tang 9 is significantly larger than existing BYD Tang models, measuring over 5.2 meters in length with a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters. This places it squarely in the full-size SUV category, where it will target premium buyers seeking space, luxury, and performance.

Launch Timeline

BYD officially announced the Tang 9 Series alongside the Han 9 Series at its Dynasty Festival event on January 10th. Both models are currently undergoing a public naming campaign, with “Great Tang” emerging as a leading contender for the SUV’s official designation. Both vehicles are slated for official launch in the first half of 2024.

The arrival of the Tang 9 signals BYD’s ambition to establish itself as a dominant force in the high-end electric SUV market, challenging established players with cutting-edge technology and aggressive performance.
