The BYD Atto 3 EVO represents a substantial overhaul of the original model, boasting significant improvements in range, power, and charging capabilities. Rather than a mere facelift, the updated vehicle features a new powertrain architecture, making it essentially a next-generation EV in familiar packaging.

The Atto 3 EVO is available for order now, with deliveries scheduled for spring. While UK pricing remains unconfirmed, expect a modest increase over the current £37,000–£39,000 range.

Core Improvements: E-Platform 3.0 and Battery Tech

The most critical upgrade is the adoption of BYD’s new E-Platform 3.0. This new architecture supports a larger 74.8kWh battery pack—nearly 15kWh bigger than the previous version. The battery’s “cell-to-body” design optimizes interior space and reduces weight.

Furthermore, the switch to an 800V system doubles DC fast-charging speeds to 220kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in around 25 minutes. This is a major step forward in usability and convenience for EV owners.

Powertrain Options: Rear-Wheel Drive and Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive

The Atto 3 EVO offers two powertrain configurations:

  • Comfort (Single-Motor): Rear-wheel drive, 308bhp, 380Nm torque. Accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds with an approximate 317-mile range.
  • Excellence (Dual-Motor): All-wheel drive, 442bhp, 560Nm torque. Achieves 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds with a 292-mile range.

These upgrades deliver substantial performance gains: the new Comfort variant improves acceleration by 2.2 seconds and adds 57 miles of range compared to its predecessor.

Refined Chassis and Subtle Styling Updates

BYD has also upgraded the rear suspension to a more advanced five-link system for improved handling. Exterior changes include a revised front bumper, streamlined window graphics, updated rear lights, and new wheel designs, contributing to a more sophisticated appearance.

Inside, the 15.6-inch touchscreen now integrates Google apps (Maps, voice assistant), alongside an 8.8-inch driver’s display. The gear selector has moved to the steering column, freeing up center console space.

Increased Utility and Practicality

Despite retaining the same body style, interior packaging improvements result in a 50-liter larger boot (490 liters total). An additional 101 liters of storage space are available under the hood. With the rear seats folded down, cargo capacity expands to 1,390 liters. The improved performance also increases the braked towing capacity to 1,500kg.

The BYD Atto 3 EVO isn’t just an incremental upgrade; it’s a leap forward in EV technology, combining increased range, faster charging, and enhanced performance in a familiar package. This makes it a compelling option for buyers considering a mid-size electric crossover.
