BMW has confirmed that the limited-edition M340i 50 Jahre (50 Years) model, initially released exclusively for Canadian buyers, will now be available in the United States. The commemorative vehicle celebrates half a century of the 3 Series, offering a unique blend of heritage-inspired aesthetics and modern performance. Priced at $75,200 before destination charges, the 50 Jahre Edition stands out with exclusive design packages that pay tribute to iconic past generations of the 3 Series.
Celebrating Five Generations
Buyers can choose from five distinct design packages, each representing a different era of the 3 Series. The first package honors the original E21, finished in Ruby Red Metallic with an Ivory interior and red brake calipers. The E30-inspired variant features Boston Green Metallic paint, Tartufo upholstery, and blue calipers. Representing the E36, the third option comes in Avus Blue Metallic, also with Tartufo upholstery and blue calipers.
The E46 generation is celebrated with Carbon Black Metallic paint, black upholstery, and red calipers, while the E90 gets Sparkling Graphite Metallic paired with Tartufo leather and red calipers. Regardless of the chosen package, all 50 Jahre Editions feature black Shadowline trim on the kidney grilles and air intakes, along with BMW’s M Shadowline full LED headlights. Additional exterior enhancements include an M Performance carbon fiber lip spoiler and a commemorative badge on the trunk lid. Gloss-black 19-inch M wheels and an M Performance exhaust system with Shadowline tailpipes complete the exterior upgrades.
A First for the U.S. Market: Extended Merino Leather
The interior of the 50 Jahre Edition distinguishes itself with extended Merino leather, a higher-grade upholstery option not previously available in U.S.-market 3 Series models. This premium leather extends beyond the seats to cover door cards and armrests, creating a more unified and upscale cabin finish. While it’s unclear if the leather extends to the lower center console, the result is a noticeable step up in luxury.
Additional interior touches include extra carbon fiber trim, a Harman Kardon audio system, custom scuff plates, and a commemorative metal plaque on the cupholder cover.
Familiar Performance
The M340i 50 Jahre Edition retains the standard model’s powertrain. The 3.0-liter inline-six engine, aided by 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, delivers 386 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The addition of the M Performance exhaust system enhances the driving experience without altering the core performance metrics.
Availability and Deliveries
Order books are now open, with production already underway. The first customer deliveries are expected to begin in early 2026. The 50 Jahre Edition represents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to own a piece of BMW history, combining heritage-inspired design with modern performance and luxury
