Audi has announced significant interior updates for its 2027 A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron lineups, most notably the reintroduction of physical controls on the steering wheel. The move represents a course correction for the brand, which previously faced criticism for relying too heavily on touchscreen-based interfaces.
The Return of Tactile Feedback
The updated steering wheel design incorporates scroll wheels, echoing elements from Audi’s Concept C interior. While this addresses driver feedback regarding ease of use and safety, it’s important to note that key functions like climate control still rely on touchscreen operation. This partial reversion to physical controls suggests a measured approach, balancing modern aesthetics with practical usability.
Software Improvements for a Cleaner Experience
Alongside the hardware changes, Audi has overhauled the software interface for both models. The updates prioritize clarity, with improved graphics, enhanced contrast between icons and backgrounds, and reduced menu clutter. A unique feature is the inclusion of a 3D model of the owner’s car within the software, accurately reflecting the vehicle’s paint color and configuration. This detail enhances personalization while providing a more intuitive user experience.
Pricing and Availability
The 2027 Audi A6 e-tron will start at $67,995 for the single-motor rear-drive version, with the dual-motor model priced from $69,995 and the S6 e-tron beginning at $80,895. The Q6 e-tron SUV starts at $65,795, while the SQ6 e-tron will be available from $74,495. Sportback variants of the Q6 e-tron are priced at $69,595, with the SQ6 Sportback starting at $76,895.
Deliveries of the updated models are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
The shift back to physical controls highlights a broader trend in automotive design: prioritizing driver experience over purely digital interfaces. This is not just an aesthetic change; it’s about improving usability and reducing distractions.
