Ariel has reached a significant milestone, celebrating the 25th anniversary of its iconic Atom line by unveiling its most potent iteration yet: the Atom 4RR. This new model represents a massive leap in performance, pushing the boundaries of what a lightweight, open-cockpit vehicle can achieve.

Engineering a Powerhouse

At the heart of the 4RR is a heavily modified 2.0-liter turbocharged K20C four-cylinder engine, sourced from the Honda Type R. However, this is far from a standard off-the-shelf unit. Ariel has re-engineered the engine to function as a bespoke racing powerplant, incorporating several high-end upgrades:

  • Internal Reinforcements: The engine features closed deck sleeves, custom forged pistons, and specialized connecting rods.
  • Precision Valvetrain: A new alloy valve set, improved springs, and a custom camshaft ensure the engine can handle high RPMs reliably.
  • Enhanced Air & Exhaust: A larger turbocharger, a carbon air inlet system, and a lightweight titanium exhaust system optimize flow and power delivery.
  • Reliability Under Pressure: To manage the heat and stress of such high output, Ariel installed a race-spec gated oiling system and a competition-grade head gasket.

This engineering overhaul allows the 4RR to produce a staggering 525 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

For braking, the car uses 12.2-inch AP Racing ventilated rotors —the largest possible for this wheel configuration—paired with Yokohama A052 tires on staggered 16- and 17-inch wheels. Notably, the car offers 11 different ABS settings, including the option to turn the system off entirely, catering to both street use and dedicated track enthusiasts.

Exclusivity and Availability

The Atom 4RR is not a mass-market vehicle. Ariel has stated that production will be carried out in “extremely limited numbers.” While the exact production run remains undisclosed, the price reflects its status as a collector’s item and a high-performance machine.
