Vauxhall has released a facelift for its eighth-generation Astra model, applying the same sub-£30,000 price point to all variants—including electric (EV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and hybrid (HEV) options.

The move simplifies consumer choices by eliminating price differences between body styles (hatchback and Sports Tourer estate) and powertrains. Previously, the Sports Tourer carried a £2,875 premium over the hatch in the older model. The base Griffin trim now starts at £29,995, with GS from £31,495 and Ultimate at £33,995.

Key changes include : a revised front design with Vauxhall’s signature “Vizor” grille, illuminated badging inspired by the Opel compass, and updated wheel options. The interior features a scratch-resistant satin grey finish with physical controls for essential functions, alongside standard “Intelli-seats” for improved comfort.

The facelift comes at a competitive time in the family car market, with rivals like the Kia K4 and Dacia Striker entering the segment alongside updated models from Honda and Ford.

Powertrain and Performance Updates

Vauxhall will reintroduce the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine later in the year, which will further lower the base price. The current powertrain options include:

  • PHEV : 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 17.2 kWh battery, producing 196 bhp with a 52-mile electric range.
  • Hybrid : 1.2-liter turbocharged engine with a 48V motor and six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
  • EV : A new 58 kWh battery (shared with the Peugeot E-408) delivers an improved range of 282 miles – 22 miles more than the previous Astra Electric. The EV now includes vehicle-to-load functionality for powering external devices.

Storage and Equipment Levels

The Astra’s boot space varies depending on the powertrain:

  • Hybrid : 422 liters (hatchback), 597 liters (estate)
  • EV : 352 liters (hatchback), 516 liters (estate)
  • PHEV : 310 liters (hatchback), 466 liters (estate)

Higher trim levels (GS and Ultimate) add features like keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a 180-degree reversing camera, and advanced safety systems. The Ultimate trim also includes Intelli-Lux headlights, a head-up display, and massaging front seats.

The 2026 Astra’s simplified pricing structure and updated features aim to maintain its position in a crowded market by offering consistent value across all variants.
